The Doctor Is In program is a special on-site service which is offered solely to attendees of various national, regional and state court conferences throughout the year. The program offers conference attendees an opportunity to speak with one or more of NCSC’s court services professionals on any desired court topic, for no charge and with no further obligation. The purpose of these free consultations is to target one specific challenge that is being faced by the attendee’s court or other organization. Attendees are given an opportunity to explain their role, their work culture, their current challenge, and their thoughts about potential solutions. Concurrently, the NCSC professional offers insights, related experiences, potential solutions and opportunities for solutions, networking, technical assistance and/or strategic planning with the goal of solving the challenge in an efficient and manageable manner.

As of 2015, the Court Consulting Services (CCS) division has conducted over 250 Doctor Is In sessions. Please see the list of free consultation opportunities below for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the format of the Doctor Is In consultation?

The Doctor Is In provides a one-on-one opportunity to seek a solution consultation to a business problem. This is not a seminar or class that you attend, it is a personalized consulting opportunity. We are focused exclusively on you and your court’s challenge during that time. However, you are welcome to bring one or more of your colleagues to attend the discussion.

How long will my session be?

Due to demand and limited availability, consultation time slots are typically restricted to either 60 or 90 minutes depending on the venue.

When and where is this service offered?

Doctor Is In opportunities vary in accordance with our experts’ ability to travel and attend the conferences. Common examples of conferences which feature the Doctor Is In program include NCSC's Court Technology Conference (CTC) and e-Courts Conference, and the annual conferences of the Mid-Atlantic Association for Court Management (MAACM)  and the National Association for Court Management (NACM).

How do I make an appointment?

After you register for a conference at which the Doctor Is In service is being offered, you will receive an e-mail invitation from NCSC. In response to this e-mail you can describe your business problem, and provide your top three favored time slots. Please select more than one time of availability, so that we can honor as many meeting requests as possible. Our staff will then get back to you with the appointment and room details to confirm your meeting reservation. For further details please feel free to contact .

How should I prepare for my meeting?

Please provide your cell phone number after your meeting has been confirmed, in case there are difficulties finding the room or with meeting your consultant at the conference. You also may want to become familiar with the hotel’s or conference center’s floor plan prior to the meeting. NCSC conference staff should be on site to assist you with locating the appropriate room if necessary.

Should I bring any materials to the meeting?

If you feel that doing so will allow your consultant to assist you with the discussion and decision making, you are certainly welcome to do so. Common examples of materials we have reviewed include case filing statistics, court policies, budgets, organizational charts, strategic plans, annual reports, and relevant statutes.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If at all possible, please e-mail our staff and provide advance notice so that our consultants can be available to provide assistance to others at the conference.
